The city of Simi Valley is in the southeast corner of Ventura County, California, United States, 40 miles from downtown Los Angeles, making it part of the Greater Los Angeles Area. The city sits next to Thousand Oaks, to the south, Moorpark to the west and Chatsworth and Porter Ranch to the east.
A study done by the University of Vermont ranked Simi Valley as the fifth happiest city in the United States, while a different study placed it as 7th safest in the U.S. Nice numbers, indeed. There don't appear to be any buildings over 3 stories high, and the area sits in a bowl separated from the San Fernando Valley by the Santa Susanna Pass.
The population is estimated at 170,000. Commuters reach downtown L.A. in a variety of ways and in an even wider variety of commute times. (50-100 minutes each way) Metrolink trains connect Simi Valley to Burbank and then to downtown. Homes located in Simi Valley's edges are subject to wildfire danger, as temps often eclipse 95 in the summer. It must not be too bad though.... 5th Happiest!
